Good info to beginners like me. May be missing something, but Blogger themes / designs seem to generally be "narrow" fixed width where WordPress has wider format options or themed layouts(?) I'm looking to start with the right option for me - thanks for any thoughts.

Excellent comparison, looking at this confirms my decision to stay with Blogger, no matter that so many people rave about Wordpress. There's nothing driving me away from Blogger and nothing drawing me to Wordpress. The flexibility of the themes / templates with Blogger is a huge plus for me. Thanks for putting this together!

Chandan:If I included Live·Journal the table would become much larger. It would be more difficult to use. I believe the free version of Live·Journal places large banner ads on each page. Let me know if I am mistaken.

Excellent comparison. Can u include live journal in the list as their are many ppl who swear by LJ's features which of course as we know can never be compared to a feature rich blogger. A side by side feature to feature comparison would definitely turn LJ'rs green.

Helpful information. One other comparison is the difference of how each handle leaving comments. Wordpress allows a handy comment box with the post. An annoying feature of Blogger is that it opens another window that does not match the theme of your blog. There are hacks, however, that can be made to the code to simulate wordpress that way. This is my only beef with blogger.

A nicely presented comparison. One thing I find frustrating is that I can't edit Blogger comments. A few times rude words appeared in comments which were mostly relevant and sensible. I had to disallow them because I couldn't replace the offending words with asterisks. I'd also like the opportunity to correct typos. Thanks for putting this comparison together. On the comment about comment spam, I get more spam coming through a Wordpress blog I look after that has less hits than my Blogger blog. It takes a lot more effort to manage spam than blogger because I just don't get that much (a couple per year maybe).
